Essentially, this delivery method allows students to connect with their instructor and classmates for live instruction via the Internet. Students "attend" the class daily in a scheduled block in real time by watching and participating in a fully interactive live session hosted by the instructor and with students located at the NorQuest affiliated campuses across central Alberta. ELive students view a whiteboard just like they would in a regular face-to-face class and they can hear the instructor, watch his or her writing or typing on the board, and they can ask questions using a microphone or direct messaging. Elluminate Live supports PowerPoint, JPEGs and a variety of video file formats providing rich and sophisticated multimedia lessons that usually surpass those available in a traditional classroom setting. All classes are recorded so students are able to review them at their convenience later. Each WebClass (Live) course has an on-line WebCT "wraparound" component which provides communication tools - email, discussion boards, etc - as well as additional course material - review material, self-tests and other multi-media resources - for the student's use outside of the class. All WebClass students have full access to the NorQuest College on-line tutorial centre and can participate on one-on-one sessions - using ELive-with one of the college's tutors. WebClass (Live) has a high rate of student retention, satisfaction and success. |
