Social Work - Diploma

Become a Registered Social Worker

Social workers are able to assess and respond to human problems at both an individual and social, structural level. This requires a certain type of individual, one who is open-minded, empathetic, tolerant and committed to building strong communities.

Graduates of the program are eligible to apply to the Alberta College of Social Workers to become Registered Social Workers. Most graduates decide to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation. In fact, more than 90% of graduates from the Social Work program are working in a relevant employment setting within six months of graduation in such areas as addiction agencies, inner city organizations, immigrant settlement services, group homes, financial support settings, community development centres, advocacy groups, and senior centres.

Most social work graduates will also choose to continue their studies at the baccalaureate
level, entering a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program. Transfer arrangements differ
between post-secondary institutions.
