University Transfer - Bachelor of Education

First and second year university-level courses which can be
credited towards a Bachelor of Education degree.

Grande Prairie Regional College University Transfer programs are the first steps to degree completion. Our transfer programs give you the opportunity to begin university studies with the advantage of highly qualified faculty, low student-instructor ratio, a friendly supportive environment and affordable tuition. A university transfer program allows you to begin university studies at the college and then transfer to a university or a private university college to complete the degree.

University Transfer at Yellowhead Region Educational Consortium

Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) in collaboration with the Yellowhead Region Educational Consortium (YREC) offers university transfer programs and courses to students in the Yellowhead Region. YREC offers courses towards the first year of a Bachelor of Education.

Courses offered by YREC may differ from on-campus offerings and may change annually depending upon the student need and the availability of instructors.

Fees

Application Fee $ 60.00
Tuition & Admin Fee $ 355.00 per course

Please note: There is a tuition deposit of $250.00 due at time of registration and no later than one month prior to the fall and winter semester start. This is a non-refundable fee should the student withdraw from the program.

Textbook costs are in addition to these fees.

Tuition Deadlines

PART-TIME:
If taking 1 or 2 courses per semester, full fees are due at the time of registration.

FULL-TIME:
If taking 3 or more courses, tuition is due: Fall - September 16, 2010
                                                             Winter - January 19, 2011

FALL 2010

September 02 - Fall semester classes begin
September 16 - Last day to change registrations dropping fall and full-year courses. No refunds or tuition adjustments will be made for courses dropped after this date.
September 16 - Last day for payment of fall and full-year courses without penalty.
November 05 - Last day to withdraw with permission or to change course(s) to an audit.

Regular Admission Requirements

You require the following Alberta Learning high school courses or equivalents. For course groups, refer to the Classification of Alberta Learning Courses.

• English 30-1, minimum 60%
• Pure Mathematics 30
• One course from Group A or C*
• One course from Group A or C*
• One course from Group A, B, C*

While not a requirement for the program, you may be required to present a Criminal Record Check to those practicum agencies and field placements that require one of individuals working in their organizations.

If you plan to transfer to an institution other than the University of Alberta, you will want to confirm the admission criteria for that institution. Check with the Assistant Registrar of Admissions or an advisor in Student Services. If you plan to specialize in a particular subject area, you should present Grade 12 prerequisites basic to that subject area.

Mature Student Admission

If you are 21 years of age or older and do not have a high school diploma, you may still be eligible for admission as a Non-Matriculated Adult (NMA). Admission to the University of Alberta pre-professional year requires an overall average of 60 percent on the following two Alberta Learning courses or equivalents:

* English 30-1, minimum 60 percent
or
* One other 30-level subject from Group A or C*

Regardless of admission requirements, you must have the high school prerequisites to the courses you require or wish to take in your program.

How do I know which GPRC course will transfer?

GPRC courses with approved transfer arrangements are identified in the Course Description section of the calendar. “UT” denotes that the course transfers to at least one degree granting institution in the province. The Alberta Transfer Guide (www.acat.gov.ab.ca ) lists all the specific details on approved course and program transfer agreements that the College has with post-secondary institutions in Alberta. The information in the Transfer Guide changes annually with additions, deletions and amendments. You should consult the edition of the Transfer Guide that corresponds to the academic year in which you plan to take the course.

What university transfer courses should I take?

Once you have decided on a university, use the GPRC calendar, the Alberta Transfer Guide, and the current calendar of your chosen institution for planning your program and verifying transferability. Choose your courses wisely so that the courses are appropriate for the degree program. Degree program requirements change from time to time so be sure you are using the most recent edition of the college and university calendars.

Where can I finish my degree?

GPRC offers transfer programs to the U of A or U of L. A maximum of two year (60 credits) will prepare you to apply to the second or third year of the BEd degree program at the U of A. A maximum of one year (30 credits) can be applied to the Combined BEd programs at the U of L. Please see page 104 to 106 of the GPRC calendar for more information.

Selection and completion of the appropriate courses for your program and a competitive grade point average (GPA) are required for successful transfer to the BEd program of your choice. For further information on current required GPA, please consult with an advisor at GPRC.
